Madonna and Child Saints

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We publish essays of 1500-3500 words, including footnotes. If you have an essay or thesis (chapter) that can be polished/finished/rewritten as an article of 1500-3500 words, you are very welcome to submit with us! We will make our selection based on the quality of the research and writing, but also on the spread of topics, periods and geographical regions, in order to create broad overviews of art historical research on all periods and continents. While previous authors are welcome to submit new work, we will give preference to new authors in the selection process. A link to the submission form can be found below, but please make sure to read the instructions on this page first, so you know what to do and maximize your chance of being selected for publication.

HOW TO SUBMIT

  • If you'd like to submit a finished essay (for instance an essay from a previous course): please submit the complete text.

  • For unfinished essays (which you are currently writing): submit the current text + a 200-word abstract of the complete plan. The abstract should be a brief overview of your entire argument, including the research claim, outline of the essay and conclusion. It is not merely an introduction, but should give us a quick idea of the whole essay.

  • If you'd like to publish part of your thesis, send us the full thesis and include, at the start of the document, a brief explanation of which part (for instance a chapter) you'd like to rewrite for possible publication.

  • Your submission should be sent as one PDF file.

  • If you are planning to send in multiple submissions (which is allowed), please fill out the form separately for each submission.

  • For all submissions we will ask you to include your name, email address (preferably umail, but if this about to expire, use an email adress that is sure to be available for the entire semester) student number, the grade you received for the text (if the text has already been graded), the lecturer for the original assignment, title of the essay, language the text is written in and the time period considered in the text (before or after 1850).

  • Please include your name both in the essay itself (below the title) and in the file title (for instance 'submission John Doe')
